There are many
ways to connect to Valheru MUD. Here you will find various ways to connect directly
from a PC running Windows, and also a few ways to connect from other platforms
such as Mac.
Java:
If you do not have, or do not want to download a real MUD client you can use the
java interface,
BUT a real MUD client, like zMUD is way better and offers a lot of nice features
the java client does not. You may want to use the java interface if you just
want to check the game out quickly before getting a real MUD client like zMUD.
Telnet:
Telnet is the quickest and simplest way to connect from a Windows PC if NOT best
method. Simply enter telnet://mud.valheru.com:4242
into your browser or click the link, and you will automatically connect to Valheru.
The telnet application that comes with Windows is however not to be reccommended
and if you must use telnet then we suggest CRT from http://www.vandyke.com.
Clients:
A client is a program designed to give you a better interface with the MUD.
It gives you access to alias, triggers, mapping function, colours and in some
cases the sound interface used on Valheru MUD. Some clients have more features
than others. Here they are listed after platform and operating system.
Microsoft
Windows:
- zMUD
- available for many different versions of Windows and widely used by Valheru
MUDders. You can download the latest version as a 30 day trial and then register (registration costs $25 dollars for lifetime updates and 3 licenses, share with a friend perhaps?) Otherwise, if you are NOT using Windows XP you can use the free, unsupported, old version.
- Pueblo
- no longer being developed or supported, but an alternative to zMUD if that
doesn't suit.
- Mud
Master - freeware, based on Tintin with some nice features.
- SimpleMU - nagless shareware with plenty of features.
MacOS:
- Rapscallion
- 5 cows from Tucows for this Mac client. Easy to use and with lots of features.
- Savitar
- not too much information available on this one at present. Try it and see.
Unix/Linux:
- mcl
- multi function client, compatible with the chat protocols from zMUD and
Mud Master.
- Tintin
- thanks to Happy for the updated link to one of the best known *x clients
around.
Amiga:
- AmiMUD
- feature packed MUD client for all you die-hard Amiga fans.
